Literacy
We provide literacy based speech therapy for clients with dyslexia or who are simply struggling to keep up with grade level literacy expectations.
Did you know that approximately 30% of children do not make the connection between sounds and their corresponding letters on their own and that at least 25% of children with speech/language difficulties will also struggle with literacy? This makes SLPs uniquely qualified to work on literacy!

Reading - The 3 Main Components
-
Decoding
Understanding letter-sound associations (phonics) is the basis of reading. We aim to teach children the structure of language across the speech sound system (phonology), the ability to decode those sounds, as well as the meaning of the words they are reading.
-
Comprehension
Decoding alone is not enough. Truly reading involves a combination of decoding and comprehension skills.
Reading comprehension involves a combination of receptive language skills, memory, and background knowledge. -
Phonics
We use a multisensory, research-backed, phonics approach to literacy instruction. Our therapists are trained in either Orton-Gillingham or Jolly Phonics (or both!).
